The new Mythic system makes D4 items much more interesting after Patch 3.1.3. Regular Ancestral Uniques are no longer something players should automatically replace as soon as a Mythic appears. A good Unique base can now become part of a much stronger Mythic upgrade, giving players a clear reason to target specific boss drops.
For anyone collecting D4 items for an endgame character, this means farming should begin with the build rather than with the activity. Decide which Unique provides the biggest improvement, find its target source, and then collect the materials needed to upgrade it. This approach is much more efficient than relying entirely on random loot.
Harlequin Crest Is Still a Top Priority
Harlequin Crest remains one of the most broadly useful Mythic choices. Its cooldown reduction and skill-level benefits fit a wide variety of character setups, so it can remain useful even if you change builds later.
The Mythic upgrade makes the item even more appealing by increasing its Unique power. For players who want one piece of equipment that can support multiple endgame configurations, this is a strong place to start.
Ring of Starless Skies Helps Solve Resource Problems
Ring of Starless Skies is another item worth putting high on your target list. It is particularly useful for characters that spend resources rapidly while maintaining their core skill rotation.
Rogue, Sorcerer, and Barbarian builds can all benefit from it depending on their mechanics. Better resource control means fewer interruptions during combat, which can translate into more consistent damage against bosses and other high-health targets.
Defensive Mythics Are Still Important
Tyrael's Might and Shroud of False Death deserve attention because endgame combat is not only about increasing damage. Stronger Torment levels can introduce punishing enemy affixes, and characters without enough defensive support can quickly lose their progress.
A powerful chest Mythic can therefore provide more practical value than another small offensive upgrade. If your character already has strong damage output but struggles with survivability, this should influence your next farming target.
Sorcerer Players Should Farm Around Their Build
Sorcerer players have several highly specialized Unique options. Fractured Winterglass is a major target for frozen orb setups, while Axial Conduit is valuable for lightning-based configurations.
Tibault's Will can also provide useful resource-related benefits and complement builds that need reliable mana generation. The best farming route depends on which of these mechanics your character is already using.
Instead of collecting every Sorcerer Unique, focus on the one that changes your build most significantly. That usually gives a better return on farming time.
Rogue Players Have Strong Specialized Options
Deathmask of Nirmitruq is an important target for certain Poison Flurry and Rain of Arrows setups. When a Unique forms the engine of a build, upgrading it can have a much greater impact than replacing a normal item with one that only has slightly better stats.
The Umbracrux is another target for Rogue players, with Infernal Hordes providing a useful farming route. Combining different activities lets you work toward both specific gear and broader endgame rewards.
Barbarians Need a Complete Equipment Plan
For Barbarians, The Third Blade and Ramaladni's Magnum Opus are worth considering when their effects match your build. Weapon slots carry significant weight for Barbarian damage, so players should plan around the complete setup rather than treating each Unique as an isolated upgrade.
A single powerful item can help, but the biggest improvements usually come when the weapon configuration, skills, resources, and supporting gear all work together.
Use Bosses and High Torment Activities Together
The revised Lair Boss tables make targeted Unique farming more attractive. Once you know the item you need, farm the appropriate boss for its base version.
Then move into high-Torment Death Toll Chambers to collect Pandemonium Fragments. At Torment 8 or above, these runs become especially useful for players preparing Mythic upgrades and collecting other valuable materials.
Realm Walker events should also remain part of the routine. Their Superior Keys can lead to Baal encounters and Corrupted Reaper Chests, creating additional opportunities for random Mythic drops.
Make Every Farming Session Count
Patch 3.1.3 rewards players who have a clear objective. Rather than endlessly switching between activities, choose a target Unique, farm its boss source, collect four Pandemonium Fragments, and complete the Mythic upgrade when you have the correct base.
This method also makes it easier to evaluate Diablo IV Items before committing your resources. The strongest upgrade is not always the item with the highest raw numbers; it is the item whose Unique effect actually improves your character's gameplay.
