Flameblast and Oil Grenade give the Gemling Legionnaire a distinctive ignite setup in Path of Exile 2 version 0.5.5: establish a powerful burn, then carry it through enemy packs. When allocating POE 2 Orbs to upgrades, focus on strengthening that original ignite rather than making every skill display a larger damage number.

Start the Fire in the Right Order

Throw Oil Grenade first, making sure the target is standing in the affected area. Then channel Flameblast and release it onto the oiled enemy. The important connection is the ignited monster interacting with the oil, not simply placing a fire spell over an empty puddle.

Once the strong ignite is established, continue placing oil to maintain its spread. Think of Flameblast as the opening investment and Oil Grenade as the delivery system. If the chain expires, stop and establish another strong burn instead of expecting fresh oil to recreate the original damage automatically.

Scale Ignite, Not Just the Explosion

Gemling's Advanced Thaumaturgy makes Flameblast quality especially valuable for this setup. Its alternate quality improves ignite magnitude per stage, so quality and a fully developed channel work together. This is why an apparently modest gem upgrade can matter more than an impressive weapon comparison.

Keep the initial hit and the resulting burn separate when evaluating modifiers. Prioritize ignite magnitude and relevant fire or elemental damage, then inspect each support's wording. A bonus restricted to hits should not be treated as an equivalent multiplier for sustained ignite damage. Compare the actual ailment calculation rather than relying on the headline damage figure.

Keep Secondary Fire Damage Under Control

Adding fire damage to grenade attacks can interfere with the intended interaction. Review the crossbow, jewellery, charms, and any effects granting extra fire damage before replacing equipment. An upgrade that helps an ordinary grenade character may introduce an unwanted ignition source here.

Weapon assignments deserve the same attention. Keep Flameblast attached to its casting weapon set and Oil Grenade attached to the crossbow set. If damage suddenly becomes inconsistent, check these assignments and secondary fire sources before spending more currency on offensive gear.

Judge Mapping and Boss Damage Separately

During mapping, oil coverage and a continuous spread are central to the build's rhythm. On bosses, the opening ignite becomes more important, and heavily fire-resistant targets can make that first application less reliable. Fast pack clearing therefore does not guarantee equally smooth single-target performance.

Test upgrades against the same encounter: establish the burn, observe its damage, and repeat. Avoid drawing conclusions from one unusually favourable pack.

The best progression strengthens the opening ignite while preserving dependable oil delivery. If you choose to buy Path of Exile 2 Orbs, define the exact upgrade first rather than purchasing around an inflated character-sheet number.
