Arc Totems can become a very comfortable mapping build, but they are not at their best during the first stretch of a league. The smoother route is to treat the campaign and your first maps as two different jobs. Level with Grenades, build up your passive tree and Ascendancy points, then move into totems when the character can actually support them. That approach keeps costs under control and lets you spend POE 2 Currency on upgrades that matter instead of trying to patch several weak spots at once. You will notice the difference during boss fights too. A setup that feels awkward at level 45 can feel completely settled in the mid-70s, once Spirit, mana, and Energy Shield are where they need to be.

Grenades Carry the Campaign

Cluster Grenades are the practical choice from early on, especially after level 14. They clear packs without asking you to stop and aim at every target. Toss a few into a doorway, keep moving, and most of the screen is dealt with. That matters more than people think when the campaign starts dragging through long zones. Grenades also work well in open areas where enemies approach from different angles. Add Mirage Archer and the damage keeps ticking while you reposition, loot, or dodge a boss attack. It is not fancy, but it gets the job done. With a clean route and reasonable damage upgrades, players can finish the campaign, pick up useful side objectives, clear the Act 4 Grand Expedition, and earn the first two Ascendancy unlocks in about seven hours. The exact time will vary, of course, but Grenades give you a dependable pace rather than forcing a slow single-target setup through every act.

Make the Switch at the Right Time

Arc Totems are worth moving to at roughly level 75, not the moment the skill becomes available. By then, you should have three Ascendancy points and enough passive points to cover the build's real needs. Totems want Spirit. They want a stable mana pool. They also feel much safer once your Energy Shield and resistances are in place. Switching too soon usually leads to a character that has damage on paper but feels clumsy in actual maps. Totems drop slowly, mana disappears, and every missing defensive stat becomes obvious. Keep using Grenades while they are still doing the work cheaply. When you reach the transition point, set aside the gear first, then refund only the passive points you no longer need. This makes the change feel like an upgrade rather than a rebuild that leaves you weaker for a few levels.

Spend on the Pieces That Change the Build

A modest early setup can be put together for around ten Exalted Orbs, though prices always move around during the opening days. Start with the weapon slots. A wand with +4 to spell skills, cast speed, and spell damage gives Arc a noticeable lift. For the other hand, a high-Spirit Scepter is often the piece that opens the whole setup. Aim for about 225 total Spirit, with roughly 165 or more coming from the Scepter if possible. An amulet with +2 spell skills is excellent, but it can eat too much of your funds early on. A +1 amulet is perfectly fine while you sort out defenses. Rings should patch resistance gaps, add mana, and pick up cast speed where you can get it. On armour, Energy Shield matters, but do not ignore Spirit rolls on helmets and body armour. A temporary item with 50 Spirit can solve a real problem while you wait for a stronger Scepter. Keep boots simple: movement speed, resistances, and enough defensive value to avoid getting flattened by ordinary map packs.

Final Thoughts

The passive tree has a useful bit of flexibility once Split Personality is available. Many players path normally at first, taking the direct routes needed for campaign damage and survival. Later, with the Templar jewel equipped, some of those connecting points can be removed and pushed into better Energy Shield, mana, or spell-damage areas. It is a small change, yet it often frees up more value than buying one flashy item. Keep your resistances capped before chasing every damage roll, and do not blow all your resources on an early +2 amulet just because it looks tempting. A careful Grenade start, a patient swap near level 75, and targeted upgrades are enough to get Arc Totems rolling. If a key Scepter or defensive piece is holding you back, cheap POE 2 Currency can help fill that gap while leaving room for the next upgrade.
