Spending heavily on Ab Aeterno before fixing your resistances can turn a defensive upgrade into an expensive setback. Its Dodge Roll modifier looks exceptional, but four seconds of Overencumbrance can leave your next reposition poorly timed. Before committing Path of Exile 2 Currency to these boots, check what you lose from your existing pair, especially when approaching level 65 with unfinished defensive gear.

Read the Defenses Beyond the Percentage

Ab Aeterno combines 15-30% increased Movement Speed with 200-250% increased Armour, Evasion, and Energy Shield. Those defensive percentages improve the item's own defenses; they do not multiply your entire character's defensive totals by that amount. Compare your character sheet before and after equipping it rather than treating the modifier as a complete defensive package.

The level 65 requirement also arrives at a point where attribute pressure can make equipment swaps awkward. Check the Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence requirements before purchasing, then inspect any passive points or jewelry changes needed to equip it. A pair that forces several supporting replacements costs more than its listed price suggests.

Roll for the Attack, Not the Distance

The defining modifier, Dodge Roll avoids all Hits, rewards recognizing a boss windup rather than reacting to every nearby enemy. Against a clearly telegraphed strike, plan the roll around contact and choose an endpoint outside the next attack area. Avoiding the opening hit accomplishes little if your landing position exposes you to the follow-up.

Hit avoidance is not universal damage immunity. Damage over time and persistent hazards still require attention, so rolling through a dangerous area should not become your default escape plan. During encounters with overlapping ground effects, prioritize a clear destination before timing the roll; the modifier addresses incoming hits, not every threat occupying the arena.

Treat Four Seconds as Part of the Encounter

Every Dodge Roll grants Overencumbrance for four seconds. Build your defensive sequence around that consequence instead of assessing each roll in isolation. Against a boss with successive attack patterns, ask what you must do immediately afterward: attack safely, cross the arena, or avoid another strike. That next requirement determines whether the first roll was worthwhile.

Ab Aeterno also prevents Slows from affecting your speed while Sprinting, but that wording does not establish immunity to every movement restriction or prove that Sprinting removes Overencumbrance. Test the interaction in a repeatable encounter before relying on it during progression. Use ordinary movement for low-pressure adjustments and reserve rolls for threats that justify the drawback.

Choose Encounter Value Over Item Prestige

These boots deserve consideration on characters whose damage pattern leaves room for deliberate defensive movement. A build that can resume dealing damage from a safe position may accommodate the four-second drawback better than one constantly chasing targets. During dense farming, compare completed runs rather than isolated survivals: interrupted movement and missed attack windows can erase the benefit of avoiding one hit.

Before upgrading further, repeat the same encounter with your previous boots and Ab Aeterno, noting deaths, recovery interruptions, and completion time. Keep the pair that improves consistent results, not merely the strongest-looking defensive line. If the unique demands costly resistance repairs elsewhere, direct your POE 2 Exalted Orbs toward those missing defenses before paying extra for a better roll.
